The key to happiness is having less choice.
The key to having less choice is figuring out what the heck you want to do with your life. There should be nothing that consumes your thoughts and actions more than this mission. What are your unique talents and how can you share them?
The answer to that question is your Why. Knowing your Why will tie your legacy and vision together, providing a filter that makes your day-to-day choices much easier.
Who are you at your greatest potential?
When you’re visualizing the greatest potential version of yourself, what choices does that version of you make? Are they the same as the choices you make now? What habits do they have? Be honest with yourself. The closer you can get to making the choices that person would, the more you’ll become like that person you visualize. It’s very simple.
I’m not a fan of the phrase, “Fake it ’til you make it.” This implies that you aren’t yourself. Maybe it’s just the word “fake” that rankles me, but the premise is sound.
As humans, we have a unique gift to visualize who we want to be and then step into that role. Not as something fake, but as the ultimate version of all our highest contributing qualities. That’s what this life is all about.
Caution: By picturing the worst of yourself, you can step into that as well.
